What Is The Link Between Wellness & Environmental Impact?
If you are someone who is keen to take care of their health, then you are obviously going to need to focus on what you can do to keep your wellness in one piece. That is a tricky thing to get right, but one way to look into it is to look at what kind of impact your wellness has on the environment too. As it happens, what you eat and how you exercise can have an effect on your impact on the environment, and a more enlightened way to approach one’s own wellness is to see it as part of the greater health of the planet. Let’s explore this link more fully.
Eating Well
First of all, let’s look at eating well. If you are eating right, generally you are going to be engaging in behaviors that are good for the planet too. For instance, you’ll probably be eating primarily local foods, which keeps air miles to a minimum and reduces carbon that way.

You also probably use organic ingredients, which use less energy and are therefore better for the planet. And you likely avoid GM foods and other artificial foods too. So if you are eating healthily in his holistic way, you are also helping to do your bit for the planet. In this sense, the link between the two can be seen quite strongly and easily.
Exercising
But how does it work for exercise? Well here too, you will find that there are some natural links going on. A healthier and more active lifestyle is generally one that is going to be making use of the earth’s resources in a better way. If you are active, it probably means you are cycling to work rather than taking the car, for instance. You might even walk everywhere. Actually, it turns out that the more you exercise, the more that you are living in a way to improve the health of the planet, not just yourself.

And there is another, indirect way in which this helps too. The more fit that you are, the less energy you are using on the whole. This means you need less food too. Consequently, the pressure you are placing on the planet is greatly reduced. As you can see, keeping fit through exercise actually does help the planet to stay as healthy as possible, so it is going to be important to bear that in mind.
Good Mental Health & Service
Finally, being healthy improves your mental wellbeing too. When you feel emotionally better you are much more likely to naturally devote yourself to other people, to animals and nature in general. There is a feeling of automatic service that can arise when you are already taking care of yourself.
Your positive environmental impact is exponential in growth when you also practice self-care.

Bringing awareness to how all of our behaviors impact the environment is very important. I hadn’t taken the opportunity to think about it from a self-care point of view before this though, thank you.

The importance of self-care is being more and more acknowledged – that’s already a good thing. Obviously, there are various factors to consider – and you are mentioning some very important ones.

That’s a really great point. I’ve focused on eating locally grown foods as they’re better and also to support local farms and businesses but never really gave much thought of how that also helped the envirnoment.
Buying locally grown is helping your body, your farmer, and your community.
This helps me think to make more time to take care of myself. Self-care is not all about having a healthy body but also having good mental health.
