6 Ways To Support Your Eye Health
When it comes to your eyesight, you have many options to protect your eye health and vision.
Many eye conditions can be age-related and potentially unavoidable. However, you can reduce the risk of damage by paying attention to your eye health and keeping on top of any issues.
Assess Your Risks
Keep track of the medical history of your family. Does anyone in your family have diabetes? Does anyone have high blood pressure? Are you over the age of sixty-one? Your likelihood of developing sight-threatening eye disorders is increased with affirmation of any of these.
Eat Well
Good eye health begins with the foods you eat daily. Nutrients such as omega-3 fatty acids, lutein, zinc, and vitamins C and E may be able to help prevent age-related vision issues. These may include macular degeneration and cataracts in older people. The following foods are perfect for supporting eye health:
- Leafy greens
- Salmon, tuna, oily fish
- Oranges and citrus fruits
- Oysters
- Pork
- Eggs
- Beans
- Non Meat protein sources

Regular Appointments
Many eye disorders, if left untreated, can result in vision impairment. Diabetes and high blood pressure, in particular, can cause vision loss as a result of diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and eye strokes, among other things. Regular appointments with your optician can help you retain your eye health. Regular visits will also help you to get any necessary treatment quickly including chronic uveitis treatments to help you maintain your eye health.
Be certain to see your physician regularly so that they can help to issues that can cause damage to your eyesight. Making sure you are looking at your overall health can alert you to any potential risks.
Wear Sunglasses
If you wear the proper sunglasses, your eyes will be protected from the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays. A high level of UV exposure increases your risk of developing cataracts and macular degeneration.
Choose a pair of sunglasses that offers at least 99 percent protection from UVA and UVB rays. Wraparound lenses provide additional protection for your eyes from the sides. Polarized glasses help to reduce glare when driving. However, they do not necessarily offer additional protection.
There are also contact lenses that provide UV protection (if you wear them). However, it’s still a good idea to put on sunglasses as an added layer of protection.
Pay Attention to Changes
If you notice any changes in your vision, schedule an appointment with your optometrist right away. Watch for warning indicators such as double vision, fuzzy vision, and difficulty seeing in low light.
Additionally, red eyes, frequent flashes of light, floaters, and pain and swelling in the eyes are signs and symptoms of potentially serious eye issues. Address these issues immediately.
Exercise Regularly
According to research, regular exercise, such as brisk walking, has been shown to reduce the incidence of age-related macular degeneration by as much as 70%.
The best way to preserve your eyesight is by taking preventative action. Reducing your risk of eye problems in the future starts today.
Gear your life towards supporting your health. Wear appropriate eyewear, take breaks from screens, and make sure your diet and lifestyle choices are aligned with your health goals.

This is very important. Eye health is usually one of the things neglected by people. Great tips!
It is so important but also often seems as if it is an afterthought.
Very useful Post and great tips. Thanks for sharing
I am glad that you found value here. You’re welcome.
Thank you for sharing this. My husband really needs this because he is having a problem with his eye because he works the whole day and whole night in the computer.
That must cause him a great deal of eye strain and, perhaps, even eye pain.
I have astigmatism and regularly wear my prescription glasses (if I needed to). Anyways that I can keep my eyesight even better, I’m all in!
Blair. you attend to your eye health and do what you need to do to keep the healthiest that you can.
Ug. I can definitely blame my eye issues (at least my sight) on screen time! I have to use my computer a lot, and my eyes have really gone downhill. I do try to eat right and wear sunglasses!
Screen time is really hurtful to our eye health. The special glasses can help a great deal with avoiding some of those problems.
I have noticed that the older I get, the harder the small print is to see. I’ve assumed it just natural to the aging process, but it doesn’t hurt to get my eyes checked just to be sure.
Having your eyes checked to make certain that there are no other problems at play can never be a bad idea.
Thanks for the tips. I’m always forgetting to rest my eyes for a few minutes since I stare at the screen all day long.
You are so very welcome. I hope that you will get the rest that you are in need of.
Eye health is one of those things you don’t think about until there is a problem. Great tips for being proactive!
It really is something that many folks do not think of until they have trouble seeing.
I don’t give a lot of thought into eye health. It is good to focus on well rounded eating to support nutritional needs. I have to admit I go too long between optometrist visits as I am already overdue.
Mini focus and pay attention so I helped him so it’s a problem. It is a good idea to go before then
Thanks for these useful tips! Sometimes we really forget to take care of our eyes, while working on a laptop. Yes, I take omega capsules, but mainly forget to have a rest, when I concentrate on my urgent tasks on the screen.
When you’re hard at work is easy to get lost in it but we really need to watch our eye Heath, as well.
Such sound and sensible advice here for sure. Eye health can reallbe missed at times, so this is fab x
Thank you. I am happy to hear that you have found value.
Hhhhmmmm…I am ticking on all these boxes, at the moment. I only need to improve in the department of visiting the opticians regularly. It’s been a while since I last visited one.
That is wonderful to hear that you are on top of many of these. Now, when is your appointment? 🙂
Eating healthy and well is the best way of protecting our eyes. I did not realize wearing sunglasses help much .
Sunglasses are a great thing we can do to protect our eye health. They are definitely not only for fashion.
So many great tips! I am very conscious of my eye health. It’s so important.
I am happy to hear that you found value here.
The health of life is very important, but who knows why we all don’t consider it enough!
Unfortunately, many put themselves as their lowest priority.
Very insightful, I didn’t know our eye requires so much of taking care. Thanks for sharing this, Appreciate this article very much.
All parts of our being needs to be taken care of.
Great tips. I’ve found since I’ve hit 40 my eye sight has been deteriorating rapidly. So important to get those regular checks booked in!
Oh yes! If you are starting to see a problem you definitely want to get on top of that.
My doctor told me that carrots especially also are great for eye health. Any orange vegetable, really. I didn’t know about the other foods you mentioned, interesting! Im a huge oyster fan lol.
Well then, enjoy those carrots. They are delicious raw, cooked and roasted.
I had to get glasses once I realized my eyes always get teary and itchy whenever am working on my laptop. Protecting your eyes from light is very important.
Light protection is a great thing to remind us of. Thanks for mentioning it.
