Is The Latest Exercise Fad The Answer?

In recent years, there has been a number of exercise fads that have come and gone. And every time a new one appears, we are tempted to jump on board.

  • It looks fun.
  • The answer to our happiness has arrived.
  • We have found the exact thing that will get us to our goal weight.

Before you decide to jump on the bandwagon, here are some things to remember before you start.

 ‌

Are you fit enough for the latest exercise fad?

Many of these new exercises are designed for people who are already fit or have a decent level of fitness. If you haven’t exercised in years and decide that you want to start HIIT classes, there is a good chance you will hurt yourself . Then you may need a trip to someplace such as Texas Orthopedics. Just because the people who are doing these exercises look amazing, doesn’t mean that you can tackle them right away. Start smaller before heading off the intense workouts.

Are you healthy enough?

Being healthy and being fit are not the same thing. However, they can go hand in hand. If your doctor says that you need to get more exercise, you should start small. There are many levels of exercise that you can try out. If your health won’t allow you to tackle the hardcore dance class, try something more suitable. The aim is to make yourself healthier, not to increase your discomfort.

Can you afford this exercise fad?

A lot of these exercise fads come with a hefty price tag that might not be clear when you start out. The first classes might be cheap or free. However, after a while, the costs can add up. Many places start with cheap offers. Over time, they start to add on other costs.

Do you want to advance quicker? Private lessons and training sessions.

Better results? Buy our food and training plan.

Don’t have the equipment to carry on at home? Buy the home equipment from us even though you can buy it a lot cheaper from a sports shop.

Although you might be aware of these things, many people feel pressured by the gyms to buy these extras. If you can’t afford those extras, just say no. There is no point in getting into debt over a set of dumbbells.

Do you have the time?

You saw the flashy advert and want to join the classes.

Have you truly considered if you have the time to join? Many classes have a range of time but they can change, leaving you out in the cold. You might want to get the best results and decide to sign up for a few classes a week.

Do you have time in your day for a big commitment?

A lot of these classes expect you to be there are few times a week to get the best results. If you cannot commit in this way it can be frustrating. Making time in your day for exercise is great. You should be doing at least 30 minutes of exercise every day. However,  getting to the gym or class every day can feel impossible. Don’t beat yourself up. If you can’t commit that much time to a fitness class then start smaller.

Is it really the answer you seek?

Before plunking down a huge sum of money evaluate the whole picture. Is this really the answer you seek?

It may help you to lose weight but so will other forms of exercise.

Is it really fun? Does it just look fun? If you are not positive that it is fun than a free trial or other way of trying out the exercise may be just what you need!

  1. Thank you for the reminders. I agree with you that yes, it won’t be wise to jump on the bandwagon to join the latest fad. We have to check if our body is able to handle it.

  2. I really like to consider the price before trying new exercise programs. I like it to be cheap and reasonable. Don`t really need to try expensive equipment or private training.

  3. These are all good tips for trying out the latest exercise fad. It seems like they are a dime a dozen, and some people want to try every new thing when it becomes a fad, those tips are great things to keep in mind.

  4. These are all great points to consider. I’ve seen a lot of people dive into an exercise fad only to discontinue halfway through it because they’re not really 100% committed to it.

  5. I think you have covered everything we need to know before trying out a new exercise routine. It may look easy for some, but we must always consider the 4 points you mentioned. For me, it would always be the pressing question – if I am healthy enough to do the exercise and if I can be consistent.

  6. Such a great reminder for every fitness lover but doesn’t have a lot of time to do it.
I agree with this ” If you can’t commit that much time to a fitness class then start smaller.”

  7. I have seen so many exercise trend on tiktok these days.. Some of which are stay at home exercise routine… Also i notice that some of these excercise programs are quite expensive so i guess budget is really something to consider before joining in.. And yeah, best of all, you should ask yourself if you are really ready to commit, otherwise, it would be useless

  8. Great tips! Some exercise fads can be really gruelling so you definitely need to be sure that you fit enough for the new challenge before diving right in.

  9. This post hit home with me. A few years ago, I bought into one of those “bootcamp” style fitness trends, and paid to access the workouts. Of course, they said you had to do the program every day to see results. I’m in pretty good shape, but I ignored everything I’d learned (as well as conventional wisdom) and started working out every day just to complete the program as specified. Never having a rest day, I shouldn’t have been surprised that on day 9 or 10 I overextended myself and ended up with severe shin splints and could hardly walk. Never again! Moderation is key.

    1. Anna, I am sorry to hear that you got so injured. I also really appreciate you sharing your story with my readers and I. We can learn from other people and you have provided a great lesson.
