Dad Help!!!

Those are words that you never want your child to have to scream but yet, today, we hear “Dad help!!!” from our little boy.

I know he is no longer little. He is, in fact, bigger than both his dad and I. However he is still our little boy.

My husband runs outside with me running behind.

Our son was working on our pond and somehow fell. I couldn’t see one of his legs at all and the other was bleeding from multiple spots.

I see my son with tears in his eyes and I want to burst out crying.

His dad has to lift him over the pond and onto a cushion. Thank goodness his left leg is ok but we can see inside the flesh of our son’s right leg.

This is nothing that a parent wants to see their child suffer through. However,  I am so relieved that we cannot see down to the bone.

Then father and son rush off to seek medical attention and I stay home and wait as the other kids also need care.

I wait to hear what is going on and I wait for my baby to return home.

His older brother is concerned. He wants to know if we remembered to apply pressure. He says, “There will be cool scars.”

His younger sister is also concerned and wants to know what will happen. We wait.

His dad calls to check that our son is up to date on his Tetanus shots.

Thank goodness he is.

His dad texts to let me know that our son’s pain is subsiding. He is being tended to by the nurse and we all wait for the doctor’s arrival.

Then I learn that all is well with the world and my boy wants In-N-Out Burger.

I now get a text that stitches are done. He has had two stitches in one part of his leg and three stitches in another area.

I cancel our plans to go out with friends and await the arrival of my son. I want to stay home and I want to take care of my baby.

On the way home father and son go out for some frozen yogurt.

Then I learn that all is well with the world and my boy wants In-N-Out Burger.

He will be just fine. I feel relief.

When my son returns home the blood is seeping through his bandage. He is only concerned with e-mailing his football coach.

He lets me hold him when we are sitting on the sofa but I think he allows it for my benefit rather than his.
