3 Things to Remember When Moving Houses

Moving houses is a stressful yet exciting time in one’s life. With so many things to do and boxes to pack, one can’t help but feel overwhelmed from time to time. But, starting a new chapter at a new home is nothing short of inspiring, and with the proper guidelines, you’ll be moved into your new house in no time with no hassles of any sort. That said, here are three things to remember when moving that most people forget until the last minute.

3 Things to Remember When Moving

Change addresses

When moving to a new home, it’s important to change your address on all your bills, accounts, and platforms you order from. This can maybe take a while, and you’ll need to have your back accounts’ addresses changed as well. Be sure to double-check the new home’s address, suburb, and zip code before changing anything to ensure you have the correct details. Also, have everything ready when changing your address, such as your account number, which is what most companies use to verify you when you want to make changes – this will make the process quick and painless.

This also applies to your landline if you have one; because you’re moving to a new area, you’ll need to have your landline changed as well, but most people depend only on their cell phones these days. You may wonder when the right time is to change everything. Well, about two weeks until your move, you can start making the amendments, rather than leaving it until the last minute and not having enough time. Lastly, be sure to check if you’re moving to a new state whether they require you to change the address on your driver’s license, seeing as some states need you to make the amendments and register within thirty days of moving.

Book a moving company

This is probably one of the most important things to do when getting everything ready for your move. Some people prefer doing it themselves, but this can sometimes lead to many problems, needing to make the trip to the new house three or four times, and things breaking in the process due to not being handled correctly. There are many benefits of using a moving company like SMARTBOX Solutions, Inc., for example. They assist you with the heavy lifting and ensure everything gets to your new home unscathed and in one piece. A moving company does everything while you supervise, and you’ll have all your furniture and boxes at your new home after just one trip. And, after you’ve arrived at the new house, they carry all the furniture and boxes in and place it exactly where you want it, saving you loads of time and effort.

Label everything

When packing, it’s essential to label and mark every box very clearly. This will prevent you from opening and checking each box while packing to establish which room it is for. To be able to label it, it should contain similar things. Start by tackling one room at a time, packing the boxes, and marking them correctly. This will be much more efficient than packing the entire house in a bunch of boxes randomly. Consequently, you will be saved from spending weeks at the new home trying to figure out where goes what.

Moving is supposed to be fun and thrilling. Make sure to remember to do all of the above. You’ll be moved in and enjoying your new home in no time!

  1. Your post is helping me a lot. Its really nice to learn these home tips. Thanks a lot for the useful info on this topic. Keep sharing and updating. Also share more posts with us. Thank you.

  2. I color code each room. Green is tagged on my boxes for my Kitchen. Before the movers arrive to my new home, I place my color sheet on the wall. Even the furniture has a color paper so the mover can place it in the correct room.

  3. I usually do an inventory in excel sheet. It helps me remember everything. I also put the same things or the same kind in each boxes with proper labels. It’s easier to unpack that way.

There really is some sound and sensible advice here for sure. Labelling everything is well worth it for sure x

  5. These are very good tips. It has been a while since we moved but we typically moved through a job so they would wrap and pack our belongings. So I need to keep these steps in mind.

  6. Labeling everything is the most important tip of them all, honestly? Have you ever tried looking for the cutlery when you just can’t even remember which box you placed them in?

  7. I worry about the whole address thing. So much mail comes here. When we move, I know some is going to fall through the cracks and I don’t want someone else getting my mail.

  8. Those are some great points and will definitely keep them in mind. I label everything since we really got tons of items and I put names on the boxes so I know what and where.

  9. These are important things to remember when moving houses. After the last time moving, I’m definitely calling a moving company for the next time. And labeling?! Yes! It can be tempting to just throw it all in boxes and go but don’t! Labeling is super important for unpacking with ease.

    1. It is so tempting to just throw everything in a box. This is especially true as you get to the last few boxes. A moving company also makes everything much easier.

  10. Booking a moving company and labeling everything are two HUGE tips that everyone needs to remember. Labeling makes it so much easier to find everything, and a moving company saves so much work and time.

  11. Those tips are very useful to me for the reasons of I’m moving to my new house in next two months I’ve learn a lot thanks for the info.
