The internet gives us many opportunities to lose our focus.
You could be working on one thing, and then you receive an email about a cool new website from your friend. You just have to check it out at that moment. After you spend some time there, you have to let your friend know what you think about it.
And, what kind of friend would you be if you didn’t share it with a bunch of friends or co-workers?
People get sidetracked all the time. In the online marketing world, there is a concept known as Shiny Object Syndrome.
When people jump around from one marketing idea to the next it is usually referred to as Shiny Object Syndrome. Click To Tweet
This is a surefire way to lose focus and it can be quite costly, too.
Each one of these shiny objects proposes another way marketers can make money. So, the marketers abandon the previous methods, in the hope that the new method will work for them. This becomes ironic, though, when you think of what would happen if they stayed on one track instead of jumping trains all of the time.
A laser focus on one program or one idea can exponentially increase the likelihood of success.
If you lack focus and you have failed on several occasions, consider working with an expert who can help you remain focused and moving forward.
They can help you set your overall goals and then together you can figure out the action steps needed to make your goal become your reality.

Dr. Ho, you’re so right about the many distractions. I find myself going down countless rabbit trails while I’m on my computer. I limit the notifications so that I’m not pulled away too often.
Thanks for sharing your tips with us.
YES!!! or on the phone, ipad, or so many other things. I hope that this post will bring focus for you.
It is right, whoever wants to be successful in any business has to focus on it. Shiny objects only bring distraction, good to stay with one thing. Especially great if there is help offered from an expert, it is best to stay and learn intensive and focused on one business model.
Jumping around from one business model to the next is so counter productive.
Hi Elise,
You’ve written an important post, but let me ask a question.
I have always been guilty of having shiny object syndrome, but when I see I’m not getting the return for my time invested, I stop pursuing the “shiny object.” Isn’t that okay?
Janice
It is wonderful that you are always assessing what is and is not worth your time. Just be carefukt hat SOS doesn’t sway you from something that is working.
Focus and staying focused is so very important! It is also very easy to lose sight and get wrapped up in the day to days… so I am loving this post. Thank you!
What a delightful comment. I agree that the day to day can definitely get in the way if we dont gain control over it quickly.
Our brains can only focus on one thing at a time. I like to use a timer to keep me in “line” works well. You get things done! So it makes sense to have laser focus. Blog looks great 🙂
Thank you for the comment on how the website looks and for sharing what works for you.
Focus is the thing nowadays. I take it very serious when I teach my son. Today, the world is so colourful and fantastic, compared to the one I had in my childhood. Even for me, if I don’t have the skill, I won’t go anywhere.
I am so pleased to hear that you are teaching this to the next generation.
I LOVE multi-tasking– but it’s really bad for focusing. Thanks for these important thoughts– helped me see how some of the things I’m doing are hurting my focus.
I am so pleased to hear how this has helped you. I look forward to hearing future updates.
I find this to be very accurate. I have often gotten sidetracked from a desktop notification, only to return to my original task an embarrassing amount of time later. When I want to focus I disable desktop notifications, and flip my cell phone over so I cant see all the push notifications. It really helps.
These are two brilliant tips. Thank you for sharing them with me and my readers.
I’ve definitely fallen victim to getting sidetracked when online. Its so easy to lose focus when theres so much to see and interact with! xxx
There is so much good stuff but we definitely don’t want it to distract us from our own good stuff.
