Stay healthy during the holidays!

With the holidays fast approaching, it is important to reflect on how you can stay healthy during this season. Unfortunately, it’s easy for people’s health and fitness goals to be pushed aside when they feel busy or stressed out with family obligations. However, this blog offers some tips about what you can do in order to stay healthy during the  holidays.

#1. Exercise

Schedule time to exercise during your holiday break. Exercise can be a great way to reduce stress and feel less overwhelmed by all the holiday activities. If you don’t have an hour or two each day, make sure that you include some type of movement every day – even if it is for only five minutes at a time! Find exercises that are fun so they won’t seem like work (i.e., play basketball with family members)

#2. Do Not Forget To Rest

Being healthy during the holidays does not mean that you have to do it all yourself or be perfect. It is okay, and actually beneficial, to take a break from some activities so that you can remain productive without being overwhelmed. Also, get a good sleep routine going so you can get the most rest during your holiday break.

#3. Eat Healthy Foods

When you are at parties, holiday dinners, or other gatherings, it can be easy to eat foods that are not so nutritious. Be sure to make some good choices for yourself so that your energy stays high and you continue to feel well. Healthy food includes fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Research for healthy family recipes you can cook this holiday. An example of a wonderful family dish is a slow cooker beef stroganoff. It does not only contain quality foods, but it is also an easy and delicious family dinner.

#4. Purchase Supplements

Make sure that you take a daily multivitamin to support your immune system. If you are not getting enough vitamin D, consider purchasing a supplement for this as well. Vitamin D deficiency is linked with inflammation and chronic diseases such as diabetes or heart disease, which can make it difficult for the body to fight off infections during the winter season.

#5. Drink Enough Water

Your body needs plenty of water during the winter season. It is easy to get dehydrated from being inside with the heat on and not drinking as much as you should. Keep a glass or bottle of water nearby at all times so that it is easier for you to hydrate throughout your day!

#6. Be Hygienic

It’s essential to practice good hygiene during the winter season. Wash your hands frequently and clean off surfaces that you touch (i.e., doorknobs, refrigerator handles) so that they do not spread germs throughout your house or office space. Remember, you can also get sick from touching things in public areas like shopping carts and basketball hoops!

The holidays are a wonderful time but it is also a time when many people get sick. Use these tips to deal with illness but mostly to stay healthy during the holidays.

Happy Holidays to all!

  1. Holiday season is fast approaching and glad I came over this post. Thanks for the reminder for me to stay healthy! I should take note of your list and make sure I exercise and drink water a lot!

  2. This is a great list and a reminder for everyone. I admit I usually lose the time to exercise during holidays due to the tight schedule but will make sure to prioritize that this year. Thank you for inspiring us to stay healthy.

    1. You are so very welcome. The holidays definitely offer some challenges us to fitting in exercise but it’s also a great stress relief and can help with enjoying the holidays.

  3. I am 100% agree with all of these tips. Food is everywhere during holidays, but the best gift to give to ourselves is to stay healthy. Thank you!

    1. Firstly, I am very happy that you are such a fighter and were able to get to the point where you can say, “I am a survivor.“

Insomnia is very challenging and then you add in some holiday stress and sugar eating and this causes many problems.

  4. It’s so important to rest and get a good amount of sleep. I don’t have problems with drinking water during the summer, but during the colder month’s it’s difficult.

  5. These are excellent tips. I would add that moderation is another important factor. I have to eat at least some junk, so I just make sure I only eat a little of it.
