Simple healthy practices can make a tremendous difference.

Many people don’t worry about their health until they really have to.

It can make people reflect on their own mortality. It makes me reflect on mine.

I have been surrounded by so much death lately.  Four people all closely related to me. My mother, my aunt, another aunt and even a great aunt. All within 12 months.

It is all so sad but I can’t get stuck in that. You cannot get stuck in that. We must attend to our health.  It is true that there comes a time when it is simply our time. However, we also must do our due diligence to keep that as far into the future as possible.

Ignoring your health is never going to help.

The good news is that you can start with some simple healthy practices. I have even thrown in a few funny practices that can improve your health.

Simple healthy practices

See A Doctor

One of the best ways to keep your health on track is to see your doctor when you need to. If you are experiencing back pain, for example, seek out chiropractic care. Make an appointment with a dentist if your teeth hurt. See the appropriate naturopath or allopath for what ails you.

Don’t wait until things get worse. It’s best to get help early. As soon as your body tells you there’s a problem, you should ask for help.

Smile More

Smiling seems to extend our lives. According to the findings of research conducted by Wayne State University, the larger your grin, the longer you will live. Studies found that those with the biggest smiles outlived those who barely smiled at all by an average of seven years. This may be because people who can grin broadly are more positive in general and happier in life. Consequently, they ae more resilient and likely under less stress. in general.

This is true for your heart health, blood pressure, and most of your bodily functions.

Get a good night’s rest

Fixing this single aspect will put one-third of your life under control just like that.

The benefits of a good night’s sleep will cover a range of mental and physical health issues. This improves your happiness levels and can help slow some of the physical changes that are set to occur. Whether it’s mastering the transition from screen time to sleep or creating a more comfortable environment is up to you. Either way, sleep quality and duration are vital.

Change Your Initials

You may not think of your initials at all. After all, how can they possibly make or keep you healthy? The truth is, however, and as strange as it sounds, research shows they can.

According to University of California experts, initials that spell something out are the initials of someone more healthy than the average person. Click To Tweet

It is believed that if your initials spell out anything good (such as VIP, WOW, or TOP), you will be healthy. This is most likely due to the fact that others will constantly compliment you on your unusual name and initials, reminding you that you are a fortunate, happy person. You will become that lucky, optimistic person if you adopt this attitude. It is a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Being (Slightly) Overweight

We are all aware that being overweight, and particularly being obese, is harmful to our health. Obesity can result in premature death as well as illnesses such as cancer, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease. Being just a little overweight, on the other hand, has been proven to be healthier than being very thin. This is because as we age, we lose weight, so if you’re a bit overweight in your younger years, you won’t go down to an unhealthy weight when you’re older. Remember, though, if you’re already at a healthy weight, attempting to gain weight in order to live longer is a bad idea. It is also important to take this bit of info with a major grain of salt… the research is comparing mildly overweight people with those that are unhealthily underweight.

Exercise

The importance of regular exercise is promoted throughout our lives. However, it’s not only about the physical rewards of getting a better body image that matter. Staying active will keep you mobile and flexible. It can be highly rewarding and brings routine to your days.

Of course, if you are interested in dropping a few pounds, pick up a workout routine, and for sure, you will see the results.

Get Married

There are many advantages to being married. However, one you probably haven’t considered is living a longer life. Research shows that those who marry are likely to have healthier and longer lives than those who live with their significant other, or are single. This is definitely an interesting thing to ponder if you’re unsure of whether to pop the question or not!

Find Balance

Eat great foods and enjoy as healthy of a life as you can.

Also, make things easy on yourself by enriching your mind with motivational materials from books, quotes, and similar. Additionally, join wellness or social groups of people you share the same life goals for motivation and encouragement when the going gets tough.

  1. Surely, many could relate to this. Now, this is really what we need. Staying healthy and making sure we are on top of the game. It is important to take good care of our health. Prevention is better that cure.

  2. I love this.. Sometimes simple gestures and actions like these can make a huge difference. I really agree about seeing a doctor and i wish i could have done that myself before being diagnosed with diabetes. I should have not ignored the signs and seek for doctor right away

    1. I do, as well. However, I also have to say that I was speaking with my husband okay about how much I miss seeing people smile. As well, I miss people being able to see that I am smiling at them. The masks hide it….

  3. These are awesome tips for a healthy lifestyle, except the part of ‘getting married’. This will raise some questions for many who enjoys the lifestyle without needing a companion in life.

  4. I’ve heard about living with your significant other can help you to be healthier. Great practices. Thank you for sharing!

    1. Getting a good nights rest and getting your exercise are extremely important. I just spoke with someone who states that his heart surgeon commanded the strength training that he has been doing. The surgeon feels that it had everything to do with the friend getting through surgery successfully.

  5. I am sorry for your losses — I have lost 3 close to me in the past year as well. It is important to make sure we take care of ourselves even when things are somewhat difficult!

These are great tips but that initial one is weird. Having initials that spell out something is good? I will tell my son — his initials spell out J-O-B! LOL

    Thanks for sharing!

    1. LOL – Dominique. It is kind of weird but, and you know this in the same way I do, when things have been so hard we need to find those kinds of things that make us smile.
I am really sorry for your losses too. If you ever want to chat, just for mutual support, hit me up.

  6. I think in the times of COVID we are thinking about our health more than ever. I found the point about marriage funny, but it’s true!
