I ask for you to consider what you wish for yourself.
Do you wish to earn a certification, publish a book, become more fit, organize a closet or something entirely different?
What do you want?
If you achieve these goals should you earn a reward?
YES!
You absolutely should be rewarded for achieving your goals. Positive reinforcement is the name of the game. Now let’s go over the rules of the game.
Positive reinforcement is some type of reward that would encourage the intended recipient to follow through on the behavior.
A great example is the reward of a spa day (I love Qua) for finishing your taxes (that day is right around the corner).
In this case you know if you can get through your taxes you can feel at ease and take the time to pamper yourself. It encourages the behavior.
Other great examples of rewards include:
- new jeans
- lingerie
- a massage
- a bath
- a special notebook
- flowers
- a fitness tracker
- a piece of jewelry
- a night out
- a mini vacation
- a dream vacation
Positive reinforcement works best when it is a regular thing so it is best to set SMART Goals for both the short term and the long term.
This works best when you set weekly goals and a goal for 3 months out, 6 months out and one year out. The concept is that the shorter term goals all feed into the long term goal.

I find this article very helpful and informative. It’s been a while since I came across such relevant content. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Hey Elise,
We should get rewarded for accomplishing out goals because the feeling of accomplishment is great. If we could accompany it with rewards we take efforts to achieve the goals. Many bloggers and entrepreneurs reward themselves on their achievement, they prioritize their goals, they achieve them and they reward themselves.
Thanks a lot Elise.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I love that you point out the importance of prioritizing your goals.
Hi Elise,
I am a big fan of goal setting. In fact, I penned down my life goal about four years back and have yearly goals set towards meeting my life goal.
Here is where I suffer the most – I don’t pause and take the time to reward myself along the journey.
Your post was a nudge and reminder to me that I need to take some time to celebrate and reward myself along the journey.
Thank you sharing!

I am beyond pleased to have provided the nudge that you were in need of. Celebrate every step of the way. Feel free to share your celebrations with me too. I would love to know more about what is going on with you.
Hi Dr. Elise,
Firstly thanks for the recent visit to my blog.
And on every goal we reach, we should reward but it rewarding will help to achieve our other goals.
Thanks for sharing.
It was my pleasure. I learn so much as I visit the blogs of other folks.
I love when a reward builds on itself and is actually a way to bring you closer to the even bigger goals.
Hi Elise,
yes, we deserve rewards.
I too like to go for a massage for example.
We need to care for ourselves to be able to
care for others. I f we accomplish something
a reward makes ambitious for the next task.
Thank you
Erika
We absolutely do need to take care of ourselves. If we do not then we will have nothing left to give to others.
This is interesting.
In some way I think we live in a token society. Where we feel like we must be rewarded…
If we think about our jobs being “vacations from poverty”, it’s true. It’s a blessing to have a job and an income. And it’s not bad to want more, we just need the right mindset 🙂
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. A reward can be a wonderful thing. It is when we take things for granted that trouble can ensue.
