A rose bouquet is a popular Valentine's Day Choice.

Valentine's Day is upon us and perhaps you still do not know what to get for your beloved. A rose bouquet may be a perfect choice. Click To Tweet

However, when choosing a rose bouquet as a gift it is important to consider what the different colors represent.

Red Roses are traditional, to say the very least.

Valentine's Day Rose Bouquet
My beloved hubby greeted me with 2 dozen beautiful red roses today. He had not seen this post yet so that made it extra awesome.

It is probably the only flower with which you can get away with giving just one rose.

Red roses represent passion and romantic love.

If you want to make a strong statement these should be your choice.

Purple Roses are representative of love at first sight, or enchantment.

They can also represent opulence and royalty, though they usually are deeper in color when representing this.

The Yellow Rose represents freedom and is especially popular in Texas.

They also are indicative of good cheer and as such are useful for cheering people up.

Dark and Vibrant Pink Roses are the flowers that show gratitude, fun, and happiness.

Light pink roses are more calming and gentle. They can be used for conveying sympathy.

White Roses are pure and, as such, will display truth and innocence.

They are most often used as a wedding flower.

Of course, there are many other floral choices such as tulips or a mixed bouquet of hand-picked flowers.

  1. I had no idea different colours have different meanings. My wife has never liked roses and lilys are her favourite flower. With regards to Valentines Day, we’ve never made a big thing of it. We prefer to surprise each other spontaneously although that doesn’t happen much! This has given me the impetus to do something nice tomorrow.

  2. Ah .. Valentines day was sweet. Has to be one of my favorite holidays… love roses.. Hope you had a loving day my friend

    Hi Dr. Elise,
I didn’t have an idea of what each of those colors represent until now that I read your post.

I don’t have preference for flower as a gift. I value spending quality time with my loved ones over flower.

Thanks for this highly educative post.

    Taiwo.

  4. I got a dozen red last week for my birthday and another of the same today!
I grew up in Tyler, Texas, informally known as the Rose Capital of the US. Vendors would stand on the corner with a dozen roses for a dollar.

  5. Oh I love that you shared the meaning of all of the colours! That’s so cool . I adore flowers and plants any time of year. I prefer potted so I can keep them forever, but gifts like roses are always lovely too! Happy valentines day ♡

  6. It’s interesting to learn what each of these colors of roses mean. I like getting flowers if money is available, but if it’s not, then just spending time together works for me.

  7. As a florist I’m a big advocate for sending roses on Valentine’s Day. I love receiving flowers as a gift too. Flowers in general make people happy. Red roses “Forever Young” is my favorite on Valentine’s Day. Happy Valentine’s Day!!!
