November 26, 2011: Black Friday

Let’s clear this Black Friday business up right from the beginning.

I know that November 26 is indeed one day after Black Friday.

I have read about Black Friday sales and, other than a few specific items, I am not really seeing what is so terrific about the sales that make people wake up so that they can shop while they should be sleeping. Perhaps I am missing something though I would not know as I have never gone to a Black Friday sale while I should be sleeping. I did shop during the afternoon of Black Friday one year but I did not think the sales were so fantastic.

This year the sales began when the clock struck 12 am on Thanksgiving.

Black FridayMy daughter wanted to go but after many hours of preparing and serving our Thanksgiving feast, I could not even imagine dragging myself upstairs to my bed. I definitely could not see myself making it to the store. It was a movie and bed for me.

We are off to “Saturday Shopping” in one of the largest malls in North America. We are meeting our cousins who are much closer to our kids’ ages than to ours.  I purchase fascinating items like a new set of glass containers. My daughter purchases and has items purchased for her by her older cousin. My oldest son is treated quite well by his older cousin. The cousins certainly do love one another.

My younger son stayed home because he is allergic to the mall. No Black Friday treats for him.

Eventually, the adults petered out and left the kids on their own. They came home quite a bit later with their shopping complete. They even stopped at 85 degrees to bring home treats for the adults.  These are great kids and we love them all very much.
