Four Surprising Ways In Which Your Home Could Be Making You Sick

While we often look forward to returning to our homes after a long and stressful day at work, it’s important to be aware of the impact that your home can have on your overall
health and wellness.

For example, if not properly maintained, certain areas of your home could actually be damaging your immune system, meaning that you’re more vulnerable to sickness.

With that in mind, here are just some of the surprising ways in which your home could actually be making you sick!

There’s too much clutter.

Nobody likes being surrounded by clutter, but many people are unaware of the health hazards it causes, viewing it as nothing more than an eyesore. However, the truth is that clutter can impact both your mental and physical health in numerous ways.

For example, not only do “cluttered rooms have a higher chance of accumulating more bacteria in unwanted places,” but various studies have found that people who spend time in cluttered spaces often report higher levels of stress and anxiety than those who are more organized. As a result, you can take better care of your health by getting serious about decluttering.

There’s mold in your home.

Whether you’re dealing with the after-effects of a flood or your pipes are simply old and dated, there are many reasons why there may be mold in your home. However, while this may seem like a relatively minor issue to begin with, mold exposure can lead to a range of health complications, especially for those who have respiratory diseases such as asthma.

As a result, if you notice any signs of plumbing-related mold in your home, it’s time to reach out to a Plumbing Repair team who can resolve any issues on your behalf and help ensure your home is mold-free in no time.

Your home is poorly ventilated.

According to various studies, there are many dangers associated with spending time in spaces with poor ventilation systems. For example, it could “result in an eventual build-up of carbon dioxide and little oxygen, which means you could suffer from shortness of breath, headaches, and fatigue.”

Again, there are many ways you can improve ventilation in your home. For example, simply opening the window can allow fresh air to pass through the space, though you may also want to consider installing an air conditioning unit.

You’re surrounded by dust and other allergens.

Being surrounded by dust and other allergens can also impact your health due to the fact that they can cause allergies to flare up. For example, you may notice that you are sneezing or coughing more often or experiencing other more complex systems.

Thankfully, this issue is relatively easy to resolve as it simply requires you to deep clean your home and ensure you stay on top of your current cleaning schedule. For example, it’s advised that you dust or vacuum every other day in order to stop dust from accumulating throughout your home. You may have to do this more often if you have pets!
