It is almost the month of All Hallow’s Eve. My kids have many ideas for costumes and I am looking forward to our annual Halloween Block Party.
As I look at these wonderful kids I cannot help but think of our first Halloween as a family. It was 1995 and on that Halloween I carried an adorable little baby in his little pumpkin costume.
On subsequent Halloween’s there were Power Rangers, Disney characters, superheroes and villains.
Through all of those years, we walked with our kids so that they could “Trick or Treat” at as many houses as their little feet would carry them to.
Over time, their feet got bigger. They no longer needed us to walk them to every door therefore we started to wait on the driveways. Then they got older and we started to wait on the street. Still they got older and eventually our oldest went with his friends instead of his parents. Then before we knew it our younger son was off to his friend’s home. Then there was one.
These are the rites of passage. This is the way it is meant to be. Our lives are changing and new adventures await. I am grateful for all of the fun of the past, the joy of the present and the excitement of the future.

I have been through those stages too – now mine dress up and open the door instead of Trick or treating 🙂
Mine are not even home this year. It will just be me.
Hi Cheryl –
I am so glad that you enjoyed the blog. It is pretty exciting to me to know that you were having a similar experience. Happy October !!
You are so right … you wrote my very thoughts! Last night my son (36) and I were looking online at grown up make up ideas and as we did my mind wandered back into the past remembering the very things you wrote. Thank you for sharing!
