Yes, that is right buttocks and breasts are in the Grammy news.

For the first time in Grammy history, a very specific clothing advisory has been issued.

So what has happened?

Why do celebrities feel that it is necessary to reveal more and more of their

Why do celebrities feel that it is necessary to reveal more and more of their physical selves? How is it affecting our

How is it affecting our kids?

Through the years we have seen many outfits offering various amounts of coverage. This begs the question of whether, or not, it is desensitizing our youth and making what once would have been seen as inappropriate clothing become more appropriate.

The leaked advisory states that talent should be sure their “buttocks and female breasts are adequately covered.” Thong type costumes” and “bare sides or under curvature of the breasts” are listed as “problematic” with a  clarification that this includes “bare fleshy under curves of the buttocks and buttock crack”. Sheer, see-through clothing

hmmm…so men can show their man boobs? odd!

A clarification includes “bare fleshy under curves of the buttocks and buttock crack.”

Sheer, see-through clothing is not acceptable and genitals must be covered “so that there is no visible ‘puffy’ bare skin exposure.” CBS offers no comment to any of these statements.

For a glimpse into these “outfits” look at this slide show of the outfits.

CBS offers no comment to any of these Grammy-related statements.

The internet is abuzz with opinions on this subject. Diane states that ” pushing the envelope, whatever, and by whomever, is about blowing smoke to detract from showing how untalented they really are. It floors me that these so-called stars think they have us fooled. The truly talented do not have to do pull Jr. High antics to get attention.” This is a problem as I, and I doubt you, have any interest in seeing Junior high school students wearing clothes that are any more revealing than they already are. Miki shows

Miki shows appreciation, “Thank you CBS! I think a lot of what passes as “Clothing” these days is just ridiculous.”

David wraps it all up quite nicely with these words,

TO THE MUSICAL TALENT WHO LIKE TO PUSH THE WARDROBE ENVELOPE, I SUGGEST THIS LITMUS TEST WHEN DRESSING: if YOUR middle-school-aged child or your beloved grandmother were asking you to come and give a talk on career/show-n-tell day at their school or retirement home, would you really wear THAT outfit? REALLY????

The controversial advisory came out just days after Beyonce’s Super Bowl performance where many objected to her outfit saying that

she looked as if she was looking for a pole.

Further feedback was to the perceived inappropriateness of her outfit during a family show. When speaking to some of the male football fans about this you hear a very different version and feedback includes “Since when is the Super Bowl a family show? It is a bunch of men watching the game and what makes her outfit bad but the commercials ok ?”  In this discussion of breasts and buttocks, in a family magazine, we cannot ignore the fact that television commercials aired during Super Bowl and at other times have definitely turned more risqué offering commercials for topics that include alcohol, sexual function, and condoms. Does this desensitize our youth or does it make

Does this desensitize our youth or does it make conversation more accessible ?
