Upgrade Your Family Living Room in 4 Easy Steps

Whether it’s relaxing alone with a book or binge-watching your favorite series, or catching up with friends over a coffee, you spend a lot of time in your living room. It’s the room of the house where the family comes together or is the most comfortable space to entertain, which is why it is important to make sure that this area is inviting.

Family Living Room

If you feel as though your living room has seen better days and could use a bit of sprucing up, here are some updates you could try to make it into a better environment for you, your family, and your guests.

1. Fresh Color Scheme

One of the most effective ways to give your family living room an upgrade is by changing the overall color scheme. If you think your current walls are looking a little outdated, why not experiment with some of the latest trends for interior colors? Soothing tones are better if you want to capture a relaxing vibe, but lighter shades will also help to make a small room feel bigger. Neutral colors are timeless, and you can introduce more colorful features through your décor items, but the final color scheme you choose will all come down to your preferences.

2. New Floors

Another way to enhance the appearance of your family living room is by having new carpets or flooring put in. Frayed and stained carpets will make any room look shabby, and if your carpets can’t be revived through a deep clean, then it might be time to think about replacing them altogether. Make sure the color you choose matches the rest of the living room’s décor and think about getting the right underlay to keep the room insulated. Carpets are not the only option, however. Hardwood or laminate wood-effect flooring can also look excellent in a living room, especially with a stylish rug placed on top. This is ideal for those looking to capture a rustic, vintage feel in their living space.

3. A New Fireplace

Fireplaces are very desirable features in homes because they are practical, but they can also have a dramatic effect that improves a room’s overall aesthetic. If you already have a fireplace in your living room, but it is outdated, consider having a new one put in to fit in with the modern touches in your home. If you don’t have a fireplace or chimney, that doesn’t mean you still can’t enjoy feeling warm and cozy by the fire. You can always look into having a flueless fireplace fitted instead, which looks incredible and will certainly add something special to your living room. 4. Decorative Items

If you can’t afford to do any major updates to your living room currently but would still like to refresh this space, you can always spruce it up with a few new decorative items. For example, some beautiful, framed artwork to hang on the walls. You could also introduce some houseplants or get a stylish vase to fill with fresh flowers. These are all small changes that could make a big difference if you utilize them properly.

If you want to upgrade your family living room and create a more comfortable, inviting space, use these tips and see how they can help you achieve your goals.

  1. Oh, fireplace at home is such a cozy thing, especially in winter, mmm… I’ve never heard about flueless fireplace though. Will need to check this out. Thanks!

  2. Great tips! I love a fresh coat of paint on the walls. Especially in a neutral color palate. It is the quickest and cheapest way to make a change in your home. Plus…HA HA! It feels cleaner.
