Energy is necessary to be successful in all areas of life. Energy will nourish your mind, body and soul.
However, many of us are depleted of energy and, therefore, do not have enough energy to bring success into our lives. When we do not have enough energy we are not as motivated, we are not open to inspiration and we miss out on opportunities. This is a sad state of affairs that can be avoided by following some simple guidelines.
Have a Health Assessment
A lack of energy can indicate a health issue. If you are unusually tired then visit a Holistic Healthcare Practitioner, Doctor of Naturopathy or Medical Doctor.
Keep in mind that medications can have many side effects, including a lack of energy. If you begin to experience fatigue after beginning a new medication be certain to discuss that with your provider.
This appointment, or series of appointments, should also include an evaluation of all vitamins, minerals, herbs and supplements that you are taking. Look toward helpful additions such as Magnesium, Ashwagandha, or Vitamin B-12.
Stay Hydrated
Dehydration can cause decreased energy, decreased mental focus and digestive issues. Drinking approximately half your body weight, converted to ounces, each day will help to counteract this effect.
It is important to keep in mind that digestive issues often lead to issues with inability to eliminate properly, and fully. This will cause your body to divert energy away from other pursuits. If you are not eliminating at least once per day than this is an issue that must be researched.
Eat Healthfully
Eat whole foods at regular intervals.
Processed food deplete energy as your body has to work extra hard to digest it.
Carbohydrates (for example white rice, white potatoes and white bread) release glucose into your bloodstream quickly which can make you feel sluggish.
Sugary foods raise your blood sugar quickly which sets you up for a quick crash.
Fatty foods, such as heavily marbled cuts of meat and fried foods, will make your body work harder than usual in order to allow for digestion.
Whole foods, fruits and vegetables are much easier on your digestive system. This in turn will allow your energy to go towards what it is meant to. Additionally, they allow for a more balanced intake of vitamins and minerals.
Fake it Till You Make It
If you do not feel like you have enough energy to exercise then do it anyway. Research shows that exercising provides energy. Simply get yourself on a bike, or out for a walk, or to the gym and begin. If after twenty minutes you still have no energy then go home. Chances are very good that even with this short period of exercise you will feel more energy, a better attitude and more confidence.
Do your OMMMM’s
Yoga, Pilates, and meditation are all energizing, yet gentle undertakings. Routine stretching and breathing helps to rid your body of toxins, increase mental focus and alleviate stress. There are also the bedroom benefits…
Intimacy
Share your intimate and sacred energy with someone with whom you have a deep, and true, connection. This is in no way saying that you should run out and find someone to have sex with. Sex is only one small part of intimacy. Intimacy is about a deep and true connection with another human being. It is about being able to express yourself without fear and to know that you are loved no matter what. It is incredibly energizing and I encourage you to seek this true intimacy out.

i really needed this. i’m always feeling drained of energy. thanks!
I am hopeful that this will help.
Simple and easy tips! You’re so right about exercise and doing it anyways. Whole foods, intimacy and exercise! You can’t go wrong with those three ways to increase your energy and mood!
Yes, and the great thing is that they are all really fun too.
All very true and whilst things like exercise, hydration and sleep are often given as things to ensure are in place intimacy rarely is. I was actually speaking to my wife about this today as it’s definitely something that affects me massively if we don’t have it.
You are 100% not alone in that. I love that you had such a real conversation with your wife.
I had no idea how much being dehydrated affected my energy until a couple of years ago and I really notice it if I forget to drink enough now!
I am so pleased that you tuned into what is going on with your body.
These are all so important! It’s awesome how amazing we can all feel by following these suggestions!
I love that simple things can make a huge difference.
Like the tip about the importance of staying properly hydrated. It’s amazing what effect dehydration can have on energy levels.
It is this simple thing that means something epic.
I hear you on fuelling your body correctly. So many people confuse the lack of water with hunger and fill up on junk the body has no need for. I’ve been glad to see UK schools under more pressure to provide healthier options.
I am happy to hear that the pressure has been on them.
I have been struggling with a lack of energy and I have finally learned to listen to my body. I’ve been able to figure out when I’m not eating balanced enough because the excessive tiredness is really obvious now. Great list, I will definitely be bookmarking this so I can check each of these off!
I am thrilled that you will be checking back but even more happy that you are really listening to your body. It is so important.
I really like this post. Too many people use a lack of energy as an excuse to avoid doing any work or physical activity. I am involved in a couple health based organizations which helps me get more energy if I need it. I am a highly active person and I fight in martial arts for a living on top of being an entrepreneur. I have a passion for healthy eating, a healthy lifestyle, and fitness, so that is why I like this post so much. Keep spreading the word about health because people need it. Thank you for sharing!
Kyle, thank you. I did not know that you were a professional martial artist. That is wonderful. Please keep rocking the health message.
Exercise is really good for the mind and body.
Absolutely. Exercise can get you out of a funk like nobody’s business.
Good suggestions overall. One comment-There can be a lot of reasons for lack of energy. An in law, normally quite fit and full of energy, was feeling tired for no reason plus having other symptoms. It turned out that he had atrial fibrillation. So, any unexplained loss of energy, with other worrisome symptoms that isn’t responding to known energy boosters, should be checked out.
You are absolutely right, any unexplained issues should definitely be discusses with your health practitioner. I hope that all worked out with your in-law.
I love walking and try to do it daily if I can!
It sounds like you’re very healthy!
I am the healthiest that I have ever been in my life. I never felt this good in my teens and twenties. I adore hiking. 🙂
What a wonderful list of highlights to increase energy. I agree with them all. One of the most important aspects of my own energy is a positive frame of mind despite my walking disability. I always feel better after I’ve forced myself to take my daily walk with the rollator.
I adore that you are taking your daily walk. So many in your situation will simply decide not to. Thank you for speaking about a positive frame of mind. I agree that it is a hugely important aspect of life.
