DIY Pest Control?
Can I really DIY Pest Control?
Your home is your sanctuary. It’s where you should feel safe and secure. While a home security system can take care of some of that it is not the whole picture. There can be other intruders you need to worry about; pests.
These can come in all shapes and sizes, from the small cockroach to a sizable raccoon. You might think that the only way to get rid of them would be to hire a professional. Though that’s often recommended, you can save yourself time and money by making sure your home doesn’t attract them.
There are multiple DIY pest control tips that you can do around the home. Though this requires effort, having to deal with pests will take much more.
DIY Pest Control Tips
Keep The Home Clean
Keeping your home clean might be the most obvious DIY pest control tip you can hear. The number of people who overlook this is surprising. At least, they’ll neglect certain areas, which is where pests tend to be drawn to.
As a result, you end up with bugs and other issues in places that are typically hard to clean. While you don’t need to clean constantly, taking the time to do so relatively regularly is essential.
That will also help you find any infestations that might pop up around the house.
Know What To Look For
If you’re going to pick up pet repellent or other pest control measures, you’ll need to know what you’re dealing with. Certain ways of getting rid of pests can be better recommended depending on the pet.
If you’re unsure of what to look for, then put in the time to research. Some of this is related to where you live, as some pests are more common in different areas. Looking up a simple pantry moth identification guide with pictures, among other guides, is recommended.
Once you know what you’re looking for, you can keep an eye out for them.
Keep Things Dry
While most people know that pests are attracted to dirt and bits of food, they forget about water. Many pests will be naturally drawn to anywhere that a lot of moisture accumulates. It’s worth taking the steps to prevent that.
There are several easy ways to do so, with keeping places well-ventilated being the most obvious. As easy as this is with most rooms, you shouldn’t forget about the attic, basement, and other areas that don’t have natural ventilation.
Using a dehumidifier regularly will overcome this.
Wrapping Up
Nobody wants to bring in a pest control expert. Depending on the infestation, you could end up needing to leave the home for the treatment. That’s quite avoidable, as long as you put in the effort to prevent any infestations. Keeping each of the above pest control tips will help you do so.
That should mean that you wouldn’t need to hire a professional. However, outbreaks can happen and sometimes you need extra help. Get someone in as early as possible to make sure things don’t get too complicated, or costly.

If I am to be honest, if I am to do this myself, I’ll mess it all up! That’s why I’ll follow your advice and definitely hire a professional!
I follow my advice too 🙂
DIY can save both time and money sometimes. These tips are helpful
I am glad that you found good use.
Great tips! This should be able to help save more money. Plus less chemicals at home!
Less chemicals, more money. Those sound very good.
Fruit flys are inevitable where I live in the summer. ACV and dish soap are an effective DIY control method to get rid of those little guys.
The fruit flies are attracted to the ACV and get stuck in the dish soap. I have tried this by also putting a plastic wrap over the top of the glass that I have put acv and dish soap in and poking holes in it.
DIY saves a lot! These tips are really of great help!! 🙂
DIY saves money and often allows us to be more natural in our actions.
We always get shocked whenever we discover pests at home. Sometimes, it just feels like no matter what we do, they still find their way inside the house. Anyway, we just have to keep an eye on them all the time.
It can be shocking to see them in the house, especially when you have done so much to prevent them.
Moths fly into my home every night when I take my little dog out. I worry that they’re doing damage to my linens, curtains, and everything really. I’ll have to do some research to see if there are any DIY tips I can use to keep them from coming in or on how to get rid of them after they do.
They likely are doing damage to your linens. Let me know how it goes.
These are some great tips! Pests coming into your home seems so dire when first discovered, but good to have these tips handy!
When they enter your home it can feel overwhelming. However, it does not have to be.
