Is Poor Gut Health The Cause Of Broken Brain?

Symptoms of Broken Brain are Poor Concentration, Mood Swings, Depression & Anxiety.

These “Broken Brain” conditions start with your gut health.

If you struggle with anxiety or racing thoughts or feeling hopeless, sad, or otherwise mentally fragile, you’re not alone.

Here are the facts:

• Literally, one in three Americans struggles through life with anxiety or depression.
• Chronic stress increases inflammation, which increases anxiety and depression.
• Pharmaceutical companies are quick to pick up on this broken brain problem, but conventional medicine cannot cure it.

My mentor and previous employer, Dr. Mark Hyman, has created a powerful documentary series called Broken Brain.

This is your entry point to the newest information and cutting-edge tools and protocols to change the course of depression, anxiety, mood swings and more.

Did you know that “mental disorders” and “brain disorders” are simply the names of common responses our bodies have to a variety of insults and deficiencies?

These add up to an EPIDEMIC of broken brains, and 1.1 BILLION people are affected worldwide.

Our toxic environment, nutrient-depleted diets, and unrelenting stress affects our sensitive brains more than we can even imagine.

Dementia is NOT unavoidable. It is NOT just what “happens” to us.

We CAN change this. And remember, Broken Brain is NOT a disease of the elderly.

Dementia actually begins when you’re younger and takes decades to develop and worsen.

Dr. Hyman is not only an expert in this field, and one of the most respected leaders of Functional Medicine, he has also personally experienced a broken brain.

One day, at the start of his medical career, Dr. Hyman woke up and went from being a healthy young physician to a dysfunctional, broken version of himself—someone he didn’t even recognize.

It was like depression, ADD, and dementia all at once. And every doctor I met had good intentions, blaming it on stress or depression, but I knew there was something real going on, something physical that they were missing, that my body was affecting my brain, and that forced me into a deep journey to heal my broken brain. ~ Dr. Mark Hyman

Our broken brains cause many problems—anxiety, depression, bipolar disease, attention deficit disorder, autism, Asperger’s, learning difficulties, and ADHD, among other conditions.

Dr. Mark Hyman is deeply concerned about supporting parents and families facing ADHD and autism. In fact, he is so passionate about supporting parents and families that Episode Four is devoted ENTIRELY to this topic.

And while modern-day medicine has gone far to help the symptoms, the truth is that ADD is not a Ritalin deficiency. Drugs simply do not get to the root cause of the issue.

Broken Brain is an epidemic, and 1 in 6 children will be affected in their lifetime.

Look around that means your kids, your grandchildren, your friends… this is personal.

Episode Four closely examines root causes of conditions like ADHD and Autism. Where did conventional medicine fail us when it comes to these conditions? What can Functional Medicine contribute to the conversation?

    Hi,
This is very interesting. I have been aware for a long time that diet and a healthy gut lead to a healthy, functional mind, combined with regular exercise. Thanks.

  3. The title grabbed my attention right away, because yes, there’s a lot out there these days talking about gut health – but I don’t think I’ve seen much about its connection to brain health. I know I frequently have the brain fog, distraction, and other issues you mentioned, and I’m in the midst of modifying my diet, so this post is timely. I know my daughter also has to deal with gut health, since she has celiac disease and related gut issues – and is now dealing with her oldest daughter having various physical issues, as well. I plan to share this post with my daughter. Thanks for publishing this information!

    1. You are so welcome. It sounds as if it will be perfect for the family. That is so great that you are working on modifying your diet. You will feel so much better when the fog lifts. 🙂

  4. It’s crazy that so many suffer and they don’t know why it’s happening. As a health care professional, I know it’s not something we’re taught which is disturbing. I love Dr. Hyman!

  5. This is a really interesting post. I find diet has a lot to do with my mental health. When I’m eating healthy and sticking to being vegan, I feel so much better in myself. Likewise when I cave and give into a junk food craving, I feel terrible.

  6. This is very interesting! It’s not a topic I know much about to be honest so will definitely be checking out the series. I think its important to listen to your body and if your gut is telling you something, it may be because something else is wrong. Always good to get checked out to be on the safe side.

  7. Yes, the gut is why so many have mental health & physical health issues. I am so happy to see Dr’s who are pushing this very important information; I truly believe this can change how we treat so many people.

    1. I agree with you completely. I love that such great information is being shared. We all need to be more aware of the dangers that lurk.

  8. Elise, I am a big supporter of healthy gut. I look for products that have probiotics in them along taking probiotics. I also practice this with my dogs.
We have too much garbage in our ingredients that we buy. It is a space filler and very detrimental to our health.

  9. This is very interesting. I have been aware for a long time that diet and a healthy gut lead to a healthy, functional mind, combined with regular exercise. Thank you 🙂

    Hi Elise,
this seems to be a great documentary. In Germany, we say the death sits in the gut. this means gut health is very important and affects the whole body including our feelings and mind. Many people do not know how important
a healthy gut is. Especially in our time when most eat to much fast food and processed food.
    Thank you
    Erika

  11. I have Addison’s and MCTD and I have been reading a lot about gut health lately because I began seeing a holistic doctor and she put me on a new diet and I can tell immediately when I cheat and it seems to affect everything… I have wondered if it contributes to my thinking, feeling, and learning/retaining of new information. Thanks for the insight!
