Body Shaming by Playboy Model at LA Fitness

I am so saddened by this entire situation. Body Shaming is a terrible thing to do and snapping pictures of a naked lady in a locker room is absolutely disgusting!

I am so saddened by this entire situation that took place at LA Fitness.

Body Shaming is a terrible thing to do! Taking pictures of a naked lady in a locker room is absolutely disgusting!

The fact that the 2015 Playboy Playmate of the Year, Dani Mathers, cannot even muster an apology for the first offense is horrid.

I tend to be a pretty forgiving person and really rather zen but this one really gets me. A woman at LA Fitness had finished her exercise session and decided to take a shower. She expected a certain amount of privacy. This definitely did NOT include someone snapping naked photos of her. Nor did it include that person posting about it on Snapchat.

“If I can’t unsee this then you can’t either.”

This statement was made alongside a picture of the fully naked woman. I refuse to share the fully naked photo and continue this woman’s humiliation. There was another photo of  Dani covering her mouth in shock.

To make matters worse (Can you make matters worse?) she never once apologizes for taking the photo, invading this woman’s privacy or body shaming the woman.

Does she really understand the magnitude of who she has hurt or is she thinking about how she may have hurt her career? It woudl be good if she had thought of the consequences of her selfish decisions ahead of time.

You better believe that body shaming is not okay! Neither is illegally taking photos of a person! dani screen 3 dani screen 4

I do not find this acceptable as a proper apology. How about starting with:

“I am sorry for being so thoughtless. It was very wrong of me  and I am sorry that I took those photos. I am sorry that I posted them and disrespected you and your privacy like that. I should never have behaved the way that I did.”

The woman in the locker room did not get any of that. Instead Dani is skulking off and hiding out having temporarily shut down her Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat.

Police are launching an investigation, Dani’s LA Fitness gym membership has been revoked and we go off to the gym (I am a LA Fitness member) with this horrific behavior etched in our minds.

How do you feel about what Dani did? Will it change how you handle yourself in the locker room of your local gym?

  1. Hi Elise,

It is such a terrible thing that happened. My goodness it goes beyond being childish to abusive behavior. Our justice system needs to get cracking on things like this.

  2. I think we need to reteach the value of respect. Ofcourse, some might think because of her his

Job she deserved it or some other stupid thought. But it would be far healthier to respect and individual rather than Demean them like this. Forgiveness is imperative and I am glad that she apologized.

  3. This is such childish behavior. I’m glad there was an immediate and immense public backlash. She’s entitled to her choice to model nude and not be harassed for it. I can’t believe she doesn’t see the hypocrisy in harassing a woman preparing to take a shower.

    Wow, Elise:

Just because Dani feels proud of her body and chooses to use it to make money, does not give her the right to exploit someone who chooses not to do the same. The setting of the photos was a place where you pay to be a member, you are expecting privacy and safety, you should not have to worry about being exploited, humiliated, and shamed.

A fitness place is a place where people go to improve their physical health and change their perception about themselves (at least for most of us).

As disgusting, shocking and unthinkable as this is… I can’t believe that once again I can be shocked by what one human being can do to another. Women know how other women think… we should have each other’s backs, be loving, supportive and encouraging.

I stopped going to public gyms and fitness centers years ago. I set my own pace and coordinate my own workouts using videos and advice by various experts. This just confirms that I made the right choice.

I hope that as Dani ages, she will come to know the very depth of harm she has caused another. We all grow older and gravity takes its toll. The vanity of youth!

    1. Your first sentence is profound…”Just because Dani feels proud of her body and chooses to use it to make money, does not give her the right to exploit someone who chooses not to do the same.” She took all control from this woman and humiliated her. I hope that the victim is a very secure and happy woman that can overcome this assault.

      Thank you for your feedback.

    Hi Elise,
this sounds really Disgusting. I seem these people
often called paparazzi ,lost the sense and feeling
that they make pictures of human beings.
A proper apology at least would be necessary.
Thank you for sharing and I hope the one who
did this will get a lesson.
    Erika
