You absolutely should be rewarded for achieving your goals. Positive reinforcement is the name of the game. Now let’s go over the rules of the game.
Positive reinforcement is some type of reward that would encourage the intended recipient to follow through on the behavior.
A great example is the reward of a spa day (I love Qua) for finishing your taxes (that day is right around the corner).
In this case you know if you can get through your taxes you can feel at ease and take the time to pamper yourself. It encourages the behavior.
Other great examples of rewards include:
- new jeans
- a massage
- a bath
- a special notebook
- a fitness tracker
- a piece of jewelry
- a night out
- a mini vacation
- a dream vacation
Positive reinforcement works best when it is a regular thing so it is best to set SMART Goals for both the short term and the long term.
This works best when you set weekly goals and a goal for 3 months out, 6 months out and one year out. The concept is that the shorter term goals all feed into the long term goal.
